Kemi Badenoch will take aim at net zero tomorrow as she launches what she has proclaimed to be the “biggest programme of policy renewal in a generation.”
In a speech, to be streamed at 10.30am tomorrow [18th March] on Elon Musk’s X, the leader of the opposition will outline how shadow secretaries of state will “set a series of core priority questions” in their respective portfolio areas.
This latest development follows reports in January from the Sun that the Tory leader had told her shadow cabinet the party wouldn’t be making any major policy announcements for two years.
She’s also expected to target the net zero agenda and repeat her recent references to “the West” by saying that “it’s time for the West to stop pretending everything will be fine” in reference to net zero and that “it doesn’t look like the West is going to get remotely close to Net Zero by 2050”.
Badenoch will further declare that “net zero by 2050 is impossible” and “we have to stop pretending to the next generation and stop government by press release.”
On top of this, she’s expected to slam her own party’s previous efforts on climate change, including landmark legislation passed in 2019.
The speech was announced this afternoon [17th March] in a post to X, in which Badenoch is shown watching a video of her own speech from last year’s Tory conference, while rousing music plays. She then turns to the camera and tells viewers: “See you tomorrow.”
